After an East Coast review of sites, Shamrock Farms, one of the largest family-owned-and-operated dairies in the U.S. and headquartered in Phoenix, AZ, selected Augusta County for its East Coast extended shelf life dairy manufacturing facility. The project was announced in March 2013, the County delivered a pad-ready site in June 2013, the first wall was up in October 2013, and the facility is operational as of October 2014.
Shamrock Farms invested $50 million and created 60 new jobs in Augusta County. The new state-of-the-art facility produces extended shelf life (ESL) products including Shamrock Farms’ On-The-Go mmmmilk and Rockin’ Refuel, a new line of protein-fortified milk designed for muscle building and recovery used by sports teams in more than 150 colleges and universities nationwide.
“Shamrock Farms’ new milk processing operation is a great win for the Commonwealth and Augusta County,” said Jim Cheng, then Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade. “With the construction of a new 130,000-square-foot facility, with room for expansion, Mill Place Commerce Park gains a new corporate tenant and the region gains 60 new employment opportunities. Shamrock Farms is a company with a rich 90-year history, and I look forward to its success in Virginia in the years ahead.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Augusta County and the Shenandoah Valley Partnership to secure the project for Virginia. Shamrock Farms receiving funding from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund as well as the Governor’s Agriculture and Forestry Industries Development Fund. The company also received assistance from Augusta County, road access funding from the Virginia Department of Transportation and training support from the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
